HRH the Crown Prince honors winners of 'Progress Science' Awards
Honoring the winners of (Kuwait), (Jaber Al-Ahmad for Young Researchers), (Al-Sumait) and (Appreciation) Award for the years 2020 and 2021
In a solemn ceremony that took place in mid-February under the patronage and presence of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, His Highness honored the winners of the Foundation's various awards for the years 2020 and 2021, in the presence of a number of officials and members of the Foundation's Board of Directors. The honoring ceremony included the winners of the Foundation's Appreciation Award, the Kuwait Award, the Jaber Al-Ahmad Award for Young Researchers, and the Al-Sumait Award for African Development.
The Director General of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), His Excellency Dr. Khalid Al-Fadhel, said in a speech at the ceremony that the Foundation has achieved during the past two years a number of achievements, most notably the selection of national cadres according to the standards of scientific competence so that the Foundation works for the first time with a Kuwaiti majority, organizing and supporting many scientific events in the country that benefited about 25,000 people, training about 2,400 Kuwaitis in the most prestigious international training programs in prestigious institutions, publishing 64 research papers in prestigious scientific journals, and obtaining six Patents.
He added that in the field of providing scholarships and incentive awards for researchers and scholars, the Foundation has provided 56 support, which varied between scientific missions and grants for master's and doctoral studies and postdoctoral research, and the number of winners of its awards reached 28 scientists and researchers, and Dasman Diabetes Institute published 195 research papers in high-level specialized journals, and organized training workshops to deal with diabetes, benefiting about 3,500 trainees, while the Scientific Center received about 814 thousand visitors, and the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity won 25 patents. The Company for Scientific Progress for Publishing and Distribution organized 179 events attended by about 3,400 participants, published 19 books and distributed 195,000 publications.
KFAS Prizes
First — Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences Appreciation Award:
Won by Abdullatif Yousef Al-Hamad (former President of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development) and the late Dr. Saleh Mohammed Al-Ojairi.
Second - Kuwait Prize:
It was won for the year 2020 in the field of basic sciences (subject of earth sciences) equally by Dr. Ibrahim Mahmoud Hoteit (Lebanese), and Dr. Farouk El-Baz (Egyptian), while it was won in the field of applied sciences (subject of engineering sciences) by Dr. Muhammad Salim Alouini (Tunisian).
In the field of economic and social sciences (administrative, financial and banking sciences), it was won equally by Dr. Salim Tawfiq Shaheen (Lebanon) and Dr. Amin Salah al-Din al-Tarazi (Syrian), while it was won equally in the field of arts and literature (subject of studies in plastic, theatrical and musical arts) equally by Dr. Mahmoud Ali Kattat (Tunisian) and Dr. Nada Mohsen Al-Shabout (Iraqi), while it was won equally in the field of Arab and Islamic scientific heritage by Dr. Ahmed Jabbar (Algerian) and Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu. (Turkish).
The Kuwait Prize for 2021 in the field of basic sciences (physics) was won equally by Dr. Othman Muhammad Bakr (Saudi) and Dr. Omar Farghali Abdel-Sabour (Egyptian), while it was won equally in the field of applied sciences (subject of applied medical sciences) by Dr. Nabil George Saidah (Egypt) and Dr. Ali Taher Taher (Lebanese).
In the field of economic and social sciences (subject of educational sciences), it was won by Dr. Fouad Sami Abdel Khaleq (Lebanese), while in the field of humanities, arts and letters (subject of linguistics) it was won by Dr. Ramzi Mounir Baalbaki (Lebanese).
Third - Jaber Al-Ahmad Award for Young Kuwaiti Researchers:
It was won for the year 2020 in the field of natural sciences and mathematics by Dr. Intisar Saad Al-Hattlani, in the field of medical and medical allied sciences by Dr. Maytham Abbas Khaja equally with Dr. Wadha Ahmed Al-Fawzan, and in the field of social sciences and humanities by Dr. Faisal Mukhtit Abu Salib Al-Mutairi.
It was won for 2021 in the field of natural sciences and mathematics by Dr. Abdullah Saad Al-Azmi, in the field of biological sciences by Dr. Ahmed Rashid Al-Lafi, in the field of social and human sciences by Dr. Mishari Abdulaziz Al-Moussa, and in the field of administrative and economic sciences by Dr. Hisham Ibrahim Al-Mujammad.
Fourth - Al-Sumait Award for African Development:
It was won equally for the year 2020 in the field of education by the Yobungo Foundation for Education, and the Multeno Institute for Language and Literacy, while it was won equally for the year 2021 in the field of health by Dr. John Nkangasong, and the African Center of Excellence in Genomics of Infectious Diseases.
